This is ^10R SCMO with Silicon Carbide 0.75%, Spotted Black, Hanna's Fake Ash, and Watercolor Green on Laguna Half and Half. There were two, but the other one was sold before I got a picture. It looked even better than this one.
The SCM was applied one layer with a sponge. The rest were sprayed on with a mouth sprayer like this:
This really makes it practical to do one or two pots at a time. If you use the compressor, booth and sprayer, the setup and cleanup takes so long you really need to do a bunch of pots to make it worth your while. I plan to make a few more of these with the ^6 glazes...

Sprayed SCM/SiC at Cone 6 1/2
These are SCMO + 0.75% Silicon Carbide sprayed on with Jen's Juicy Fruit, Mayco Cinnabar, Water Color Green and Hanna's Fake Ash sprayed over. The liner (plus a ring around the lip) is MC6G Raw Sienna. All clays are ^5-7 from Mile Hi Ceramics.
In the first image, the left pot is porcelain and the right pot is a dark brown stoneware. The glazes are identical.

More Sponged SCM/SiC at Cone 6 1/2
Glazing is the same as the last post (done at the same time) - SCMO + 1% Silicon Carbide sponged on with Jen's Juicy Fruit and Water Color Green sponged over. There's a little Hanna's Fake Ash brushed on (basically dry-brushed) and the liner (plus a ring around the lip) is MC6G Raw Sienna. After the glaze had dried, I evened it out by "sanding" the glaze with a dry paper towel.
In this first one, the outside pots are a red cone 5-7 clay and the center pot is a ^5-7 porcelain. Glaze looked identical to the previous post before firing.

Silicon Carbide and SCM at Cone 6
SCM (with Iron) plus 0.75% SiC, Jen's Juicy Fruit, Mayco Cinnabar (the red blush), and Water Color Green + 1.5% Cobalt Oxide. Hanna's Fake Ash sprayed a little and a ring around the top (which did not drip at all at Cone 6). The liner for this one is Amaco Smoked Sienna. The clay is Mile Hi Aspen Porcelain.
More images from this firing to come. I still definitely got a reduction look at Cone 6, but not nearly as interesting crystals as at cone 8. I have plenty more cone 6 pots for another round of testing (already glazed).
I lowered the temp of my ^8 firing schedule by 80 degrees (peak at 2140), still used an hour hold, and used a fairly slow (-200 degrees/hr) cool down to 1800. The 6 cone was perfectly dropped and the 7 cone was barely bent. For the next firing, I'll be dropping by -150/hr down to 1600 since I'm going to be using one of the MC6G glazes as a liner.
Update 2/9 - a couple of tumblers from the same firing with basically the same glaze...

Silicon Carbide and Strontium Crystal Magic
Here's some more tests with Silicon Carbide and Strontium Crystal Magic.
SCM (with Iron) plus 0.75% SiC, Hanna's Fake Ash, and Spotted Black. The two larger mugs also have Coyote Shino and Jen's Juicy Fruit. Everything came out really well except the Juicy Fruit seems to have left craters where it was thick. It did run really nicely. The pitcher is (Laguna Babu) Porcelain, the shots are a white stoneware (Mile Hi Birch), and the mugs are a dark brown stoneware (Mile Hi Firethorn)

Fun with SiC
Artificial reduction in an electric kiln using silicon carbide. I got some 1500 grit Silicon Carbide from eBay to see if artificial reduction would work with SCM. These were fired to Cone 8 electric.
Here are the pots with Strontium Crystal Magic plus 1% Silicon Carbide as the base with Hanna's Fake Ash and Water Color Green + 1% Cobalt Oxide over.
These worked out really well. They look very similar to the pots fired in reduction. I'll probably do a comparison post with Oxidation, Reduction, and Artificial Reduction pots side by side at some point. The pot on the right is made of a really dark stoneware, which I assume caused the Water Color Green to change to the brownish green (kind of icky) color.
On the other hand, here are some pots with Malcolm Davis Shino (with Redart) plus 1% Silicon Carbide. The little pot had Coleman Tea Dust + 1% Silicon Carbide inside. Both of these glazes were bad ideas. The Shino is a huge mass of blisters that crumble into glass powder very easily. The Tea Dust was a pretty good crater glaze, but definitely not functional.
