These use the same glazes as the last several firings. Strontium Crystal Magic with Hanna's Fake Ash and Water Color Green + 1.33% Cobalt Oxide over. The differences are that I used a medium dark stoneware clay, I sponged the glaze on, and I put a ring of Ohata (a very stable glaze) right near the bottom to keep the glaze from running off the pot.
The SCM was sponged thinner than the last test - I put it on about 15 minutes after pouring the insides and the wet pot made it easy to keep thin - but the ash and WC glaze are (intentionally) thicker than the SCM. To me at least, interesting results. I'm not sure if they're so crusty because of the thinner SCM, the thicker ash over the thinner SCM, or because of the darker clay. You can definitely tell there's an ash glaze on them so I'm guessing a lot of it is due to the thicker ash over thinner SCM.
More experiments to come, but I can't get anything that hasn't already been dropped off fired in reduction until late January so I'm switching to electric for a while.
Before firing...
