Messing around with Steven Hill glazes

I've been really interested in Steven Hill glazes. I finally got around to making a spray booth (out of a cardboard box, some furnace filters, and a box fan) and I just finished my first test firing.

Here's the firing schedule (in Farenheit):
  570/hr to 2000
200/hr to 2250 with a one hour soak
  150/hr (down) to 1700

Total firing time 9 hrs, 25 minutes. According to the Orton cones in the kiln, this was Cone 9 plus a little (see next post).

For the liner glazes, I decided to play it safe and use commercial glazes. I chose three Mayco High Fire glazes. Unfortunately, they all grew big crystals. The crystals in the Black Walnut glaze look like snowflakes sitting in the bottom of the pots. Definitely not food safe. The crystals in the other two glazes are smaller - definitely macro crystals though, and they are only test pots.
